In 2011 I traded a busy career producing wildlife documentaries for a more simple life in the South of France. It was then that I discovered pottery and the immense joy and escape it brought me.

I love the unpredictability of working with Raku, an ancient Japanese technique. In a world where we are used to controlling so much, letting Nature and the elements have the final creative decision is both magical and liberating.

My pieces are hand built, one-of-a-kind originals. Whether they are decorative or functional what they all have in common is the many hours of positive energy I put into each piece.

I favour small series or little figurative 'families' over producing large volumes of work, allowing me to keep my creativity flowing.

The Japanese tradition of Wabi-Sabi, finding beauty in imperfection is something that resonates strongly with me.

Often my pieces are not perfectly symmetrical. I embrace their small imperfections, rather than let them restrain me.

I find that thumbprints and irregularities in the clay marry perfectly with the cracks, dots and spots that reveal themselves during the Raku firing.

I love to mix materials, combining ceramics with found objects such as driftwood or bits and pieces I have picked up at French flea markets.

More recently I have started working with porcelain and am excited to experiment with its dainty, translucent and seemingly fragile nature.

It is wonderful to be doing something I have dreamed about for so long.
